Attached is a table of carburettor settings for AMC Two Stroke engines. The 15T, 16T, 20T and 25T used Amal Monobloc carburettors slightly modified to suit the engines. The 17T engine used a special Amal 370 carburettor that as far as I am aware was only used on this engine. Butty Bach

Thanks for posting buttybach, I own an 150cc AMC engined Plover of about 1965 vintage, I'll get around to checking the carb settings one day, but more importantly to me is trying to find a correct air filter for the bike, I've got an old Bantam one on at present, which doesn't fit very well, but it's better than nothing at all.

Hi d7er I think the correct air filter for the 150cc AMC engine is an Amal part that screws directly onto the thread on the carburettor. The air filter for the D7 Bantam is definitely an Amal part but it clamps onto a split screw on brass adaptor ring. Both engines use an Amal Monobloc 375 carburettor but the 150cc AMC has a 13/16" choke and the D7 Bantam is 7/8". The D7 Bantam air filter should fit perfectly on the 150cc AMC carburettor if you use the screwed adaptor ring. Unfortunately the BSA Parts Manuals do not show the Carburettor and Air Filter they just give a BSA and the Amal number for a complete carburettor. You see loads of D7 Bantam air filters lying around at Autojumbles but the screwed adaptor rings are harder to find and often they are bent or damaged. The AMC 150cc air filters are rare but if I see one at the Founders Day Autojumble I will pick it up. The AMC 150cc air filter does not have a shutter type strangler ( choke ) because it has a rod operated air valve in the carburettor. Regards Butty Bach

Amal’s carburettor parts lists usually just show them with a bell mouth.

Hi 1951superlux Thanks but I have the pages on air filters that you provided a link for in a big 1960s Amal Catalogue. There is a lot of items that Amal manufactured that are not in the catalogue. Left handed TT carburettors are not listed in the section on TT carburettors. I have one and a friend raced a Norton Dominator in a Manx frame and that had left and right handed TT carburettors. My father-in-law has an unused mystery Amal carburettor labelled 690 / 1D on the flange. It's manufactured from brass or bronze and is very heavy for a 7/8" bore carburettor. I would guess that it was made mid 1950s to mid 1960s. I think it was manufactured for use in corrosive conditions and it is a pumper carburettor so it can lift fuel from a tank that is lower than the carburettor. My guess is that it is for a two stroke boat engine but I cannot find any information on it. Regards Butty Bach
