I'll need to think now to remember just how many events I've attended this year, as my memory isn't so reliable any more.
On the third of March I'd found a new friend In John, who lives locally to me, I took him up on his offer to ride to the Chequers pub at Weston On The Green, almost on the nearby busy A43, this event is run every month by the local Oxford Vintage Japanese Owners group, I was made very welcome when John introduced me and warm handshakes were being given all round, I'll have to get my CD175 finished soon and get riding it that way soon.
On the following April the fifth, I did a roughly 110 mile trip on my own around the Cotswolds, to get my 2014 free badge and certificate from the club, not an event by all accounts I know, but it was a good run out for me.
On May the fifth, I was invited by another new Facebook friend Named Ray from Towcester in Northants to accompany him and his EACC friends on mostly 50cc mopeds on a roughly 55 mile run out to Wellesbourne to get inside an old Vulcan bomber, a brilliant day was had by all.
On the 17th of May I went to Stratford Autojumble with my good friend Glen, no sign of a Mr Cole, but I collected quite a few bargains, most of which will go one the Bantam B175 I'm rebuilding.
On the 25th of May I rode to the British Motorcycle Riders' Club British Bike Day with John who rode his Bantam D14, we had beer and hamburgers, met a lot of interesting folk with some lovely old bikes.
12th of June saw me and John riding our Bantams to a local car and bike meet up run by Banbury Classic car and bike club, mostly cars I admit, but it was well worth going, John agreed.
The 16th of June saw John and I attending the VMCC annual Banbury Run at the National Heritage Centre at Gaydon, weather held out and a lovely day was enjoyed, free entry to the museum was included.
On the 22nd of June last, we then had a roughly 26 mile ride out to 'On Yer Bike' meet up between Bicester and Aylesbury, again a hot dog or hamburger type offer of food, but sadly mostly newish bikes on show, that is except for the Chilterns Japanese Owners' club which featured mostly Asian makers with some gorgeous RD type bikes in 250 and 350 guises.
June the 24th was for me a slightly different venue, which was the classic Cassington Bike Night, somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 bikes, bikers and spectators must have attended, not really my idea of a night out, just too many queues for everything and folk wandering around aimlessly, but it's all in a very good cause for village and charities. So glad I went really.
29th of June I went to the British Two Stroke Club's AGM got there for about 12.30 in my car and enjoyed the experience of meeting up with committee at last. A longish drive there and back would have been less pleasant trying to find my way on my Bantam maybe, my map reading skills are not very good, I must confess.
On the day after I attended Bloxham Steam Rally with my family and dog, a cool day and only bought some food drink and drill bits, but it was at least a family day out and something for everyone there, lots of bikes too, I may try getting a BTSC stand there next year.
So, eleven events visited already! If you take the time and trouble to ask around, look on the web etc. there's bound to be something in your own area to go see.
Tomorrow will be the twelfth event, especially if anyone turns up!
See you there?
